Makgabeng Rock Art Camp
“Not all those who wander are lost ” J. R. R. Tolkien
If living closer to nature is your thing, camping, hiking and birding opportunities are immense in Makgabeng.
The Makgabeng Rock Art Camp is our rustic campsite situated on the foothills of the Makgabeng Plateau overlooking the iconic Thabananhlana (mountain with a sharp point). This is a rustic camp for hard-core campers. The campsite has an open-sky cooking boma and ablution facilities. The view from the camp is the stunning geological landscapes of the Makgabeng. It is ideal for small self-drive groups, birders and adventure tourists to use as a departure point from where they can explore local attractions. From the camp, you can make use of a local guide and hike on foot to some of the nearby Rock Art sites, experience traditional village life and have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to soak up the local fauna and flora from the back of a donkey cart. The camp also offers great opportunities for enthusiastic astronomers to enjoy the spectacular beauty of the night sky over the camp. The camp has no electricity supply, so make sure that your batteries are charged and your solar lamps are out catching some rays.
